I love "Mimi Time". I never have enough of it but when I do, I so very much enjoy it. IF I have something we can "DO" . Mimi is now 99 and so she , obviously, is getting a little forgetful (maybe I'm worse??) but sometimes it's hard to keep her from repeating things like, "How is everyone?"...."What time does that clock say?".."How is everyone?" in the same amount of time. SOOO, i always wrack my brain to take something to talk about, ie., taking a scrapbook (old or new, doesn't matter!) or pictures (has a hard time seeing those now) or talking about the past ( she asks: "how do you remember that? "). This time I took some nail polish and hand cream/nail file, etc. and said, "we're having a manicure today!" She was so excited. I know she gets them from other family members, too, but she quickly forgets when she got one, etc. Plus, I wanted to paint them. I know she loves LIGHT pink and I found some here . It was a "last minute thought" this manicure, and a good one. Gave us something to talk about/laugh about and look at. The thing is, I didn't know how much that one little act would bring. Lots of "oohs" and "I LOVE THEM" and "I can't wait to show them off at lunch!" ! It made my day, much more than hers, I'm sure. As I was doing her nails, I started talking about "old times" again, to see what she could remember. I asked her, "now what Sunday School class was Big Mama in?" (I knew it, but wanted to see if she knew). I tried to trip her up and said, "Kings Daughters, Right?"...she said, "NO, Pieran Class". (or however you spell it, don't know what a Pieran is). Or wait a minute ! Was it MIZPAH?? I'm confused, but she wasn't! She was right! Then I asked, "Did Grand-daddy (her daddy) go each week to church for Senior Citizens?" I knew he did and, again, tried to trip her up. Where did they meet??? She said, "Wesley Hall". GOOD JOB, Mimi! So, she does remember a lot more than I thought about a lot of things. I also asked her "Who came to see you this week?" And she said, "OH, Lord! I can't remember what I did yesterday!" HAHA! So, it's pretty obvious it's the "Short term" she has the hardest time with........Had such a fun visit. Now I need to think of something else to do the next time I go that makes her happy like that! Please email me any suggestions!!!! ([email protected])........Loving the time I have with her but hating the distance. 30 miles might not seem like much, but it is. I will never get used to that part. Which brings me to the 2nd part of my blog today: having part of my family away! :( Having 2 of my children away also makes me realize how blessed I am to have the other 3 nearby, but ,nothing takes the place of having the other 2 NOT here. I don't mind that the other 3 live in other parts of town, I just love knowing I can get in the car and get to them in a hurry if I so desire. But, for those NOT here,"it is what it is" and I have had to learn to deal with it. BUT, guess what?!?! One of those "out of town" families is COMING HOME. YAY! So, that makes me so happy. Now if only that one other family lived a LITTLE bit closer.....! (praying that they will one day be back is still on my prayer list daily! HA HA!). In the meantime, I enjoy week-end visits; thankful for iChats; SKYPE; texting. It doesn't matter how you connect with your family, any old way will do! Now , excuse me while I get ready to see my OUT OF TOWN Cullen Family in a little while!
And for my mama, even tho she is 30 minutes away, I know I can also get to her when needed. Now I just need to think of some more fun things to do on my next visit! She'll be expecting it! Maybe I'll get her an iPad and teach her to SKYPE! LOL!!!!!!!!!!
