I Love this picture. It's a picture of Daddy when he was about 25, I think. When I took it to show Mimi, she said, "Is that CHARLES?" Yes, it does favor Charles! A lot! I said, "NO! It's your HUSBAND!" And Smiled. ANd she smiled and said "Lewis Wesley Powell". Yes, indeed. Daddy would've been 101 if he was alive today. Mimi is 99 and will be 100 on August 14. I am so thankful for my parents who showed me unconditional love/non-judging/joy and laughter/honesty/integrity , among so many other things!!!! And they were fun!!!! They used to have so much fun with my Aunt Ruth and Uncle Bill (my mother's sister and brother-in-law) and they loved to travel to see them wherever they lived (and they lived a lot of places!). Uncle Bill was in the Country Club business and so they were at many different places. Mostly in Florida. I was the "baby" of the family, a lot younger than my siblings, so I always got to tag along when they went to see them because I was the "only child" left at home. Oh the memories! Uncle Bill would say, around 4: 00 every afternoon, "KIDS! You know what time it is?" and Daddy and Mimi and Aunt Ruth would say , "it's cocktail time!" They were so cute. Had their glasses of scotch and water and a little tray of goodies. They never got drunk or drank to excess , but they just enjoyed having a couple of glasses of scotch/water and talking old times..... My parents were such a cute couple. And had so many friends. They belonged to a Supper Club that they loved and almost all of them have passed away....I have so many memories of my parents and their love for each other. So, this Valentine's Day , I toast to them!!!! "CHEERS!".........
P.S. Mine and Terry's anniversary is Feb.13th and 20 years ago, Terry and I went to the Wynfrey Hotel for our week-end getaway. Mimi and Daddy drove all the way to the Wynfrey and left a bottle of Champagne and the note below for us with the concierge. It was such a precious surprise. That's just the way there were! This note, and many others like it, are in my scrapbooks where I can pull them out and remember. And even cry a little.
